Ik-Joong Kang(1960~) is considered as one of the global artists, who shines not only in Korea but on international stage as the nation’s pride. He started to get recognized since 《Multiple Dialogue》, an exhibition held at Whitney Museum in New York in 1994, jointly with Nam June Paik, and later won the Special Prize in Venice Biennale in 1997 as a representative of the South Korea booth. <2010 Happy World> is composed of 8,060 small canvanses and objets, all of which exist in harmony, and placed in the lobby of Heungkuk Life Insurance Building. The artist’s new art piece in 2000 has been added to the previous work, made up of 7,500 canvases in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Taekwang Group, to present a larger and richer story. The size of a canvas used in the piece is 3x3 inches. The reason for the painter to draw on a small canvas is because he had to work on paintings during short breaks from the odd jobs he had to do during the day when he first moved to New York. The significance of each painting on a canvas with a limited space of three inches is mingled in harmony as “bibimbap” to embody the “happy world.”
